Distinguished Military Service & Dermatology Training
Following medical school, Dr. Call dedicated eight years to active duty service as an officer in the United States Air Force. She began as a General Medical Officer at Lackland Air Force Base, providing essential primary care services to Air Force basic trainees, technical students, and members of the Defense Language Institute. Dr. Call completed her transitional internship and dermatology residency at the prestigious San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). She distinguished herself early on, securing a position at the sole Air Force dermatology residency program and becoming the first Air Force applicant accepted early into active duty residency. Throughout her residency, she consistently performed at the top of her class, achieving scores in the 97th percentile on in-training exams.
Demonstrating leadership and a commitment to improving the training environment, Dr. Call developed a novel Cosmetics and Cosmeceuticals lecture series for the residency program and spearheaded an improved maternity leave policy that was implemented across all SAUSHEC residency programs. Her research activities were also recognized with the Brooke Army Medical Center Scholarship in Action Selectee award for a published case report on a novel c-kit mutation in familial mastocytosis.
Upon completing residency, Dr. Call served as the Chief of Dermatology at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois from 2018 to 2021. In this role, she embraced numerous leadership opportunities, serving as Flight Commander and Interim Flight Commander for the Medical Services Flight. She also held academic appointments as an Assistant Professor at both the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and St. Louis University, mentoring residents and contributing to medical education. Additionally, she served as Treasurer for the St. Louis Dermatological Society.
